Wilson Energy Extra Large Tennis Racket

Wilson is famous for the high-quality sporting equipment, and even more so for their tennis equipment, and the Energy Extra Large tennis racket is not an exception to their reputation. The XL features tightly strung racket strings and a large sweet spot, allowing for a much harder hit without much effort on the part of the player.

This is what makes it a great option for beginners, and the fact that pretty much everything about this racket is designed to be as forgiving as possible makes it ideal for young players. The Energy Extra Large racket is considered a good choice for beginners who aren’t yet able to generate their own power for a swing with their own technique.

The budget-friendly price of this tennis racket also makes it an excellent choice for those who are not sure whether or not they are ready to commit to the game of tennis. If you decide that you aren’t interested in tennis, you won’t have poured a fortune in money down the drain.

Who is This Product For?

If you are a beginner to intermediate tennis player and are in the market for a racket that will be able to accommodate a lower budget, you should consider the Wilson Energy Extra Large racket. Like we mentioned earlier, it would also be a great option if you are still unsure about whether or not tennis is the sport for you, since you won’t be wasting that much money if you decide not to pursue the sport.

This racquet is also great for beginners since it provides a lot of power with minimal effort from the player. It has a very large sweet spot, so you’ll be able to take full advantage of that power far more often than not, which is just the encouragement beginners need to stay motivated.

  • Very easy to control

While the Wilson Energy Extra Large racket might not be what all of the professional players are using – not that that has ever mattered – there is no doubt of its effectiveness in assisting beginners, and young players develop and advance their skills in the sport of tennis. The head is huge, for lack of a better word, and the strings are very tightly strung, giving the racket some great power that many beginner and young players will appreciate.

Speaking of the head, it was specially designed to create as much impact as possible when colliding with the ball, without the need for the player to provide that much effort. What’s more, the unique Airlite Alloy used to make the frame also makes the Energy XL a very light racket, making it super easy for young players to hold and use.

Beginner players will appreciate the racket’s lightweight form factor because if the racquet is too heavy, or they are not used to the consistent arm motions that are essential when playing tennis, the XL will be easy on their arms. This would allow beginners, and players of any skill level, to play all day if they wanted, without really feeling fatigued at all.

However, because of how tight the head is and how large the Wilson Energy XL racket’s sweet spot is, there is going to be the ever-present issue of over-hitting the short shots. What’s more, like most rackets that are designed to be as powerful as possible, controlling your ball and making sure that it stays within the bounds of the court with every shot will be quite a significant challenge for many people.

It really just depends on your specific playstyle and how you choose to interact with the ball. For the most part, however, beginner players who aren’t too eager to hit the ball with everything they have should have no problem controlling the ball using the Wilson Energy Extra Large racket.

For the asking price, this Wilson racket features an excellent design and is of a fantastic quality, which you don’t really see when it comes to beginner rackets. The frame is super durable while still being lighter than air, which is another benefit for young and beginner players who are bound to send their rackets flying across the court a few times before they get the hang of the sport.

The racket comes in a stunning black and yellow color that is super modern and stylish and is a great option for anyone that likes to keep things visually pleasing on the court. Though we cannot say that this is the best Wilson racket on the market, not by a long shot (pun intended), it is true that the materials used in manufacturing fit perfectly for the racket to fulfill its purpose and are more than acceptable.

The Stop Shock Sleeve found at the grip of this tennis racket allows beginner players to hit the ball with far more control than they would if they were playing with a racket that was geared toward more intermediate players. Control is something that every beginner tennis player has to learn, and it takes quite a while to master this skill, so the Stop Shock Sleeve is a valuable asset to new players.

The handle is also very grippy, so even if you don’t have the best control in the world and are prone to sending your racket flying across the court, that should not happen too much with the Wilson Energy extra-large racket. What’s more, the grip is quite easy to hold because of how big it is.

Even though the handle is very stable, you are still able to capitalize on the power behind your hits, which can’t be said for many similar rackets. As we mentioned earlier, the Wilson Energy XL frame is super lightweight, which makes the racket even easier to control for young players who are not as strong as older, more intermediate players.

The large sweet spot in the middle of the strings means that you will be able to take full advantage of the power that the Wilson Energy XL provides 9 times out of 10, which can be very encouraging for new players. Of course, once you get better at the game of tennis and become a more skilled player, you are going to outgrow this racket, and depending on how quickly that happens, you might not be using the Energy XL for very long.

There have also been a number of complaints regarding the handle on this racket and how it tends to be sticky. If you treat your racket with care, however, this shouldn’t be a problem, though it definitely is something to look out for. For new players, driving a fast return can be especially difficult using the Wilson Energy XL, and so can hitting anything off-balance with any semblance of control.

If you are not careful, you’ll find that the Energy XL can easily be damaged by accidental scraping over the court, and it is also very easy to hit over the ball, so you’re going to want to make sure that your hand-eye coordination is up to scratch if you want to be an effective player with this tennis racket. Finally, another complaint that users had with this racket is that there was excessive vibration throughout the frame upon impact with the ball.

This is fairly common amongst rackets designed for new players, especially with rackets that provide maximum power for minimal effort. If you have a strong enough grip, though, this vibration shouldn’t be a problem at all.

Pros

  • Excellent value for money
  • Stop Shock Sleeve improves control
  • Great for beginners
  • Frame is very lightweight
  • Large sweet spot

Cons

  • Can be difficult to drive fast return
  • Easy to hit over the ball

Final Thoughts

If you are a beginner player who is on the hunt for a powerful racket that can suit a tight budget, then the Wilson Energy extra-large racket might be the perfect one for you. It is a fantastic tool for anyone getting started in the game of tennis.
